You really need to check out Soulfly! | Slayer may have a handful of songs with groove, but the majority are more focused on brutality and twisted riffage. |

I play with Boo Radley's House. We're playing Quincy's in RP with 26 MPH and Rex Per Diem this Friday if you wanna come check us out. We're putting together a bunch of shows for Spring Summer and always looking for good, similar bands to share bills with.
Okay sorry for the thread derail guys. BACK TO GROOVE METAL | Yeah I heard about you guys, you had some kind of ad on CL right?
You probably haven't heard of us cause were always touring with thrash and death core guys

And yes, Stuck Mojo if you dig rapped vocals. Rising is a groove metal classic.

Pantera as groove metal? I just checked the Wikipedia, and it's a clear abuse of the term groove. Tell a funk player that Pantera is 'groove' and they'd pee themselves laughing.
Why can't it just be metal?

That is vs the classical influence of a lot of other metal. Sabbath would be groove metal kings. Thrash is a bit of a thing that is defined more by the rhythms, and there are often groove metal and classical metal influences overlapping in most metal bands. Bands with a classical influence are typically European and American metal is typically rooted more in blues. Of course there are always exceptions and bands that are undefinable but as gross generalities go, this seems to me to be the way o the groove metal.
Pantera is essentially what you get when you mix sabbath, VH, zz top, slayer and Judas Priest. |
