I'm sure some of you have seen this guys videos before. He does incredible reproductions of Jamiroquai basslines and has an incredible tone and feel.

This one is the live version of Ben Harper's "Fight For Your Mind". I might try to learn this solo now. It's pretty incredible.

As a side note, Juan Nelson (the original bassist) uses MTD 535s pretty much all the time. I think that's an MTD you're hearing in the live solo.

Wow, that takes dedication (and obviously some serious talent) to learn that whole tune note for note.

What Ben Harper CD is this live version of Fight For Your Mind from? I've got out run and get it and cop some licks from that solo.

Geez!

Vibrato..string bending...octave jumps..sliding up to the highest notes while doing partial chords..a few tasty slaps thrown in for good measure..nice....I love it.

I know man. His talents are wasted just sticking videos up on the internet.

Well, I guess for all I know he's got a real good gig going on, and just posts those once in a while for fun.

And - I wouldn't say totally wasted, I'm sure he's been an inspiration to a number of bassists around here.

This young man is using some kind of effects (it's not just the natural sound of his bass being amplified, is it?).

Can anyone tell me what kind of effects he's using?

A couple of you guys said exactly what I was thinking. I hope this man is getting an income for all that talent! The internet videos are nice, but I hope he is gigging and recording some CDs.

It sounds like a harmonizer to me.

Thank you. My ears told me he wasn't playing it straight, but I had no idea what he was using.

Do you know who makes a good octaver?
