I just got back from the first day of recording, and was wondering if anyone has encountered the problem we had.

My band plays in Drop C, so its a low tuneing. On one of the notes in my bass line, the producer kept missing it. He kept stopping and saying that i wasnt hitting the note, or that it sounded like i was hesitant when hitting the note. But i know i was hitting it, and when the guitarist came in he was sure that i was hitting it.

The producer was able to bring the ntoe up or something so it could be heard, idk what he did, but he said that cause it was such a low frequency, he wasnt able to pick it up. He said i should get a 5 string for such a low tuneing. I have one but idk how it would help.

Have any of you encountered a problem like that?

Are you using a standard 4 string set tuned down that low?
Or are you using a 5 string set and just leaving off the g string? (and tune to low C instead of B- 1/2 step higher)

I would either use a 5 string set or get a very heavy gauge 4 string set.
It sounds like you string just doesn't have enough there to hold the fundamental of the note you're playing.

I never personally had that issue, but do understand it.
