Hi,
Im trying to study gospel music and i´ve found some short clips of this amazing style of music and bass players on youtube .
i wonder if someone could name actual recordings that contain good bass playing in this genre , i would love to buy some for my record collection.
Thanks a lot, |

There are several genres within gospel-for instance, contemporary gospel (Hezekiah Walker, Ricky Dillard, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond(and I'd highly recommend Fred Hammond, as he is a great bassist), etc), there is country gospel (UGH), christian rock, etc. So depending on which genre you are interested in would determine which suggestions could be made. |

Reggie Parker and Dwayne Gott are so great!!!!!! It's a typical contemporary "live" gospel recording completely overwhelmed with studio overdubs, but I don't care. I love it : )

I'd really suggest going to an inner city service if you're interested.

I play in a contemporary power rock service.. this is more tuning it in (KLOVE ETC).. many churches are screaming for bass players - much easier to find a contemporary gig than an urban gospel gig... music is easier to pickup (think bad U2 charts)

Fred Hammond- Pages of Life I & II, Speak Those Things Vol III, Purpose by Design
Israel Houghton and New Breed- Live From Another Level
Kirk Franklin- The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin
Lisa Mclendon-Live from the House of Blues
There are hundreds of others of course, but I just spout off these. If you do a search, there are more indepth threads on the same subject.

Between Maurice Fitzgerald and Hammond's own bass playing, this DVD is a clinic in gospel grooves. |
