Help me find out the name of a song

I was flipping through the channels today when I came across the Cable Access channel. I rarely stop on this channel but there was this incredible funk groove the bassist was laying down on this 70's R&B song, maybe early 80's but I'm guessing 70's. It's hard to describe the song but it almost sounds like a Kool & The Gang song but it definitely wasn't them. The bassist was slapping but it was tastefully done with no overplaying, just flat out stanky groove. The bass line drove that song. Without that line I doubt it would have ever made it on the radio. There some smooth vocals going on in the chorus which sounded like 2 singers singing the same line, one singing an octave higher. There were keys in there too. I hate not knowing what to look for. I youtube searched everything from 70's jazz bass to 70's R&B hits but nothing came up.

I know this isn't much to go on but if anyone could maybe steer me in the right direction as to what to google so I could find it, I would be forever grateful.

OK, here's a hint I found when I was searching. The bass line of the song in question sounds a lot like the opening bass line to this Brothers Johnson song "Runnin' For Your Lovin'." It sounds so close that I'm guessing the bassist on the song in question very well may have been Louis Johnson.

Was it a female lead vocal?

The progression in your clip sounds alot like "Best of My Love" by the Emotions.

Nope. 5stringblues, close but different song. Actually, I think it was both male and female with the female singing an ocatve higher. Jumon, not as mixed. More old school. The bass lines on both those songs are SLAMMIN' thoguh! This is like finding a needle in a haystack. I searched for 2 hours straight and no luck. I did, however, find some other cool tunes along the way.
