I was trying to play along with and figure out Herbie Hancock's album "Man-Child" today. There are some wicked bass lines on there.

I think #5 "Steppin' in it" is the most fun bass line....the rhythm is nuts though....he's doing som really cool stuff....i'm not sure if it's a bass or a synth....i've got the basic groove but the details are pretty wacky.....

anyway anyone get down to it???

Yeah, that's a great one....the bass line to "Steppin In It" is transcribed in the Chuck Sher book; it's a killer line.
I believe I read it's a bass guitar played with a synth bass pedal (by Paul Jackson), but it could be that Herbie just doubled the bass line on a synth...

thats pure herbie on synth. my favorite track on that album is heartbeat. it sounds like an outtake off of thrust.

i love all those herbie tunes! we've played chameleon :-/ (of course, but the full arrangement with the 6.8 section...) but also vein melter, watermelon man, palm grease, butterfly, gentle thoughts and just around the corner (from the album mr hands) but the horn section doesn't like steppin' in it, so i have arranged that one yet... damn horns

Yeah that is a GREAT bassline to learn...Mike Clarke and Paul Jackson really smoke on that one.
