Simon Phillips is the star on that video. Pino really stays very close to the original Paul Jackson lines, which is fine, but no one can do Paul jackson like Paul Jackson, not even Pino!

Aside from playing the head and the few arrangement twists it indeed is very similar which is part of the reason why I find it cool, surrender to the part because it's great.
I saw Freddie Washington play with Steely Dan recently and thought the same was true:
he played almost the exact parts most of the time. The parts are so good he didn't mess with them.
The same is true here : Higher ground with Gadd and Pino.
