Hey, I kinda like the sound of my dead strings...

I'm trying out a new brand of strings (the DR Red Devils), and they're sort of dead now, but I kinda like the sound I'm getting. I used to always love that really bright, crisp sound, but now that these are dead they sound kinda... sleepy.

C & C please. I seem to be getting really loud fret slide noises. Is it all about just moving your hand around very softly -- the feather touch?

Well here's the backing groove using one track:

Eb---------19----17/18--------------19---x-17/18-----|
Bb---------17----17-----------------17-x---17-------:|
F----0------------------------0---------------------:|
C--0------------------------0------------------------|

And here's the backing groove I used for the MP3 -- in two parts:

1st part:

Eb---------2------------------------2------------------------|
Bb-----------x---x--------------------x---------------------:|
F----0---------x----0----------0--------x--3---0---x--x-x---:|
C--0----------------------0-3--------------------------------|

2nd part:

Eb---------19----17/18--------------19---x-17/18-----|
Bb---------17----17-----------------17-x---17-------:|
F---------------------------------------------------:|
C----------------------------------------------------|

I'll tab out the solo for you when I get back from my band rehearsal.

Dude, that sounds awesome. Really neat playing! What bass are you using? I'd back off a little on the tone knob for the solo, a little too much fretted clankiness in it.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to stay away from -- that clankiness. How would you suggest I EQ it in order to remove that and yet still cut through the mix?

Cut some high treble, and up the mids. Try it out. Remember...what sounds good solo doesn't always sound good in a mix, so try it at a practice or rehearsal.
