Hideous Sun Demons (James Lomenzo, Ray Luzier, Toshi Hiketa)

Does anybody else have this album and like is as much as I do? I think it's an awesome album. Hiketa, Luzier, and Lomenzo are widely known as David Lee Roth's backing band, although the 3 have played with a whole slew of other musicians (i.e. James also does bass duties for Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society.)

This project (Hideous Sun Demons- CD available from MagnaCarta records (http://www.magnacarta.net/), Ray Luzier's site (http://www.rayluzier.com) and is in limited stock at CDBaby) is a terrific album. It's a happy blend of rock, jazz, fusion, funk, some latin, with both structured songs and tangential jams. James Lomenzo's bass playing is excellent. He really holds it down with creative lines and when he gets a chance to solo, it's ON; gets nice and growly in places too. Ray Luzier's drumming is complex without losing musicality. Hiketa's guitar work is stunning.

This is a great CD by 3 talented musicians who really come into their own here and let their talent shine brightly.

I'm a big fan of instrumental music. I love Dysrhythmia for example. But I listen to something like this when I'm in the mood for something less heavy.

lomenzo has a cool interview on the warwick website right now. I always liked him in white lion, not because the bass stuff he did in there was particularly stunning, but I just liked a lot of the songs they wrote.

James is an awesome player. He can totally mix it up when the music requires it. HSD record is on my list to pick up. If you haven't heard the Pride & Glory record I highly recommend it. Zakk's first side project and James handles the bass duties with Brian Tichy on drums..it's landmark album IMHO.
