How does my band sound? (progressive band)

Sign in to disble this ad
We're an instrumental progressive band (instrumental so far)...and we're quite experimental...we don't have a professional recording yet (we're doing that right now)...but we have a live video and a demo on our myspace...I just wanted some input from the people on these forums...

I liked it. Nice mix of weirdness and heavyness. Nice Spinal Tap ending with the crazy drumming.

Maaaan, I'm lovin' the stuff. Really unique, usually I don't like prog metal, but this is pretty damn good.

i'm not crazy about lead keys and that said, the drums/synths really tie together nicely in this.

keys/bass/drums are pretty freakin solid, good playing. a little cymbal heavy for my tastes. that doesn't distract from the guy being a good player though.

i'm not trying to be insulting with the next comment....the guitar doesn't seem to be at the same skill level as the rest of the band. this composition allows for the guitarist to contribute much more to the song than what is being played IMHO.

funny you say that..our guitarist's primary instrument is actually drums, but since we already had one he opted to play guitar because he's pretty good at that as well. you cant really hear the guitar well in that recording due to equipment, but watch the video and maybe you can see him a little more.

Yeah, with the keys being lead, I'd say have him ease off the reverby type sounds, except when he's just providing atmosphere. I'd like that tone if he were just providing chording, but lead stuff, it just kinda fades away/screws with the mix.

I like the direction it's going.

The mix is horrible though. Sounds like the guitars and drums are at the back of a room.

Throw in a few more grooves and people might hang out at your shows.

Am I the only one that thinks the mix isn't that bad? I think it's pretty sweet.

That's one of the best things I've heard from TB. I like the guitar. It's really drony and it gives the band a totally diff. dynamic. It's sloppy in a good way. I love the keys tone, but it does sorta get a little choppy in the mix. I love it though, it's awesome.

You should check out my thread and my new tunes. I'd be interested to hear your take on it.

You need a good mix and mastering. Badly.
Otherwise I really like the music.

It doesn't sound like prog metal, more like 70s prog rock.
Gong comes to mind.
