Please excuse me if this has been done before. I did a bunch of searching, but didn't find anything...
Anyways. I went thru, and using google docs (which are awesome btw) I made a spreadsheet/database of all the CDs I own.
1135.
Thats right. One Thousand Thirty Five.
How big is your's? Your CD collection that is. Lets keep this above the waist! http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...eIFWJCl_4FaQOQ
The # of CDs is derived from adding up all the cells in column C, which are all 1, using the sum function. You can add 'em up for your self if you want
The advantage with this list is that when ever I get a new CD, I just add it to the bottom and sort it again. I figure the stuff in column B will stay where it is cus I doubt that there are many bands that start with "!" |

Somewhere between two and five.
All of my music is of the digital download variety. At present, I am loving Amazon's high-quality, non-DRM, MP3 offerings. I do have a bunch of burned discs for the car (haven't caught up with technology there yet) but I don't buy prerecorded music on CD format.
The only ones I have are from a couple of local indy artists.
I do have a shoe box full of older cassettes though. |

I have about 250 GB, about 3 months of music if I were to play it all start to end.

I'd say I have about 300-350 physical cds, many more digital, and probably a few hundred vinyl records I've adopted from my dad and uncle. |

That plus a LOT of downloaded concerts, MP3 releases from independents (cdnow, cdbaby) and Amazon (just recently started buying downloadable stuff from them).
I've added everything to Foobar2000...

I kept going to the store, buying a CD or LP, and realizing when I got home that I already owned a copy. I started carrying a CD with the spreadsheet on it to the store, and since I used to work there, they let me open it up on the comp up front to check it before I pay for anything. I've also used it for a paper I wrote in business management on how to organize inventory. I used the sort function to sort them by Artist, Title of album, Record Label, Year of release, and by Format(CD, LP, 45, 78, Cassette, and 8 Track-yes, I still own some of those)

I still have a lot of CDs I never bothered to import and obviously there's a lot of stuff that is download-only.
There was a time I could say that I've heard EVERYTHING in my collection but that isn't true anymore. Kinda nice to be able to find surprises though.
