I like this video, Claypool's such a tight player and solo'ist now, I like hearing him in the rougher days. This solo sounds cool, but it just makes no sense haha. Further proof of why Claypool owns all.

I listened maybe 1/4 of the way through, thinking I might hear some nice bass playing, but then gave up.

some time ago somebody on the forum asked what wanking means when used to describe music.

Well....there you have it.

even flea impresses me more than claypool, and I don't consider flea to be anywhere near the top of the virtuosity food chain.

The use of the word "sick" seems appropriate as I'm feeling slightly ill after watching that.

Ya, I think this might be a case of the sound from the recording doesn't live up to the live experience.

Ha ha! Have you even listened to any of Claypool's music? He is absolutely amazing. Flea is awesome but no where near Claypool's creativity. Primus, Oysterhead, Sausage, Bucket of Bernie Brains, Holy Mackerel, Frog Brigade....just to name a few. He also has a new album coming out.

this was about 25 years ago too. Impressive if you ask me, not anywhere near sounding beautiful. Claypool is undoubtedly a bass virtuoso. And for god sakes don't compare flea and claypool.

I know this is nowhere near the best thing Les has ever done, but it is very early on and his solo shows licks from future Primus songs. Very few people have actually heard of Blind Illusion (even though they are more talented than that other '80's bay area heavy metal band that gets all the credit) and I think Marc Biedermann, being the virtuoso that he is, should see if Les, Ler, and Mike Miner (or another drummer) would like to put out a new BI album. It would be interesting to see, how it would go over in regards to where today's music has gone since the mid '80's. I love the way Les and Marc play off of each other during "Smash The Crystal" and what a neat interpretation of "Immigrant Song" by Zeppelin. I know the sound quality is shite, but there were 250 lucky people that were there that day ... and I wish I could have been one of them. Cheers.

ok i'll make this clear before i say anything les is a fantastic bass player and possesses a skill way beyond anything i can do now or ever do in the future

however i like solo's that are musical stu hamm produces some fantastic solo's that can be played on there own as a piece of music now i'm not saying les is un musical but the solo seems to be a mix of everything he can do fast all mashed together in one lump and i cant nod my head to it without spinal injury

Hmmmmm....I believe we are detecting some jealousy displayed in this thread.Guys, its his solo portion of the show!!It isn't during the middle of a song.ITS HIS TIME TO SHINE.It was a solo,he did not take away from any song.If it was a ballad ,I would be against his wanking.I know,I know,"Les,playing a ballad?!?It was just an example.

Damn, with all the "non-appreciators"of the modern electric bass out there, you`d figure some appreciation would be shown from the VAST majority of TBers on here.

Not being cocky here, but,I think I can hold my own when it comes to wanking, or fluid musical chops. And in return, I thank God everyday. He was definitely blessed.Maybe wanking is his way of saying,"Thanks,God!"

I know the next thought coming from ALOT of you out there,"Dude,I only play for the song."Or,"I have chops like that, but I choose not to play that way."You have NO idea how many times I've heard that in my 30+ years of playing bass.BULLSH!T!!!If you had chops like that, you'd breakem' out during your solo spot too.Come on now, lets get real, don't deny it!(lol)If you would'nt,that would be foolish,IMO.Why did you practice all those hours?

Hope I did'nt make any enemies with my rant. But,it just kinda perturbed me.Peace.

Hope I did'nt make any enemies with my opinion. If someone makes a valid point to what I said,I'll stand corrected.Peace.
