probably a precision bass (maybe the p/j i see in some pictures) through a sansamp DI with the drive around 3 o'clock. seems to be the standard for a lot of hardcore punk.

I don't know, I'd maybe call it "gritty"? I'd imagine an overdriven tube amp and playing with a pick (and a lot of force) should be able to get you there.

I didn't hear tube, but I did hear gain/overdrive. Definitely a heavy pick. Probably a humbucker style pickup -- didn't sound single coil.

Do you think I could achieve this on flats?
I usually use D'addario XL's 50-105 but this time I bought Chromes to see if I liked them.
Or should I just string it with rounds again?

I already have a P-Bass MIM and rounds.
I can borrow my friend's SansAmp.
Thanks.
