I finally finished recording my solo acoustic album.

I've slowly been pecking away at writing and recording a solo acoustic album over the last year in my modest little home studio. I believe I've finally finished it.

I'm still working on making some minor mix tweaks, plus I still have to get it manufactured and distributed and deal with legal issues and all that... but in the meantime, I've made it available in it's entirety in a streaming format on my website, benjaminstrange.net.

I'd really appreciate your comments and/or criticisms.

If you dig it, come be my Myspace buddy (myspace.com/benjaminstrange). Hopefully I'll start booking some shows in New Orleans coffee shops and art houses within the next few weeks. Be on the lookout for me if you want to have a double dose of depression along with your latte.

Enjoy.

Or not.

My modest studio is a couple of cheap mics (an Oktava 219 and a AKG Perception 200), a Presonus Firepod, Logic Pro 7, and some strategically placed Auralex foam.

Really? Eww.... I wouldn't even consider them a remote influence.

Thanks for your offer of monetary support, though. I can't wait to get all this put together.

You still plan on selling these at the Deltafunk shows? If so, I'll be sure to pick one up next time y'all are around when I can make it out.

Jeff Schmidt and I are totally open to another FIST-based franchise. You and Trip Wamsley should start a project and call it "Mohammed Fist". Awesome.

Hmm... well, being that much of your material sounds similar to a band I was in a few years back, I'd say you and I are very much in a similar vein, musically speaking. Perhaps we should franchise each other. I'll form Mohammed Fist, and you can form Bed Pan System.

As for the acoustic album, I've decided to manufacture it myself - I'm not going to spend $1000 to print 500 CDs that I'll have a hard time selling. I'm going to make them myself in small batches of 50 or so.

Well, if it reminds people of APC, then I guess that's not a terrible thing. I'm glad it made you sad - at least it's having some effect.

Yes, I made the website as well. Everything is done in house: recording, mixing, art development, manufacturing, etc., etc., etc.

I'm still making some minor mix tweaks, and some tiny vocal fixes. Beyond that, what you hear is what you get.

I'm in process of working out the legal kinks and artwork for the CD, which I hope to release very very soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words - it really means a lot to me.

By the way, in regards to the APC thing... many of these songs were written long before APC even formed. I guess they must be using the same 12 notes that I am...

wow... I dig it! Very tense emotional expression... nice dymanics! I hear a little Layne Staley in your voice at points. You are very easy to listen to. You actually sound a lot like what I had hoped my old Singer/Songwriter would grow into... unfortunately he didn't have it.

My only criticism would be mix related. I prefer a warmer, more muted acoustic guitar tone. Your tone works well, it's just not my choice in tone

Hmm... I'll give that a try. I'm using some crappy mics in an even crappier square room. I like a warmer tone, too. Some have said the mix is perfect, other's too bright... this stuff is hard.

Thanks for your kind words and criticisms. Every little bit helps.

Yeah, I hear the Anathemaish vibe too, really cool stuff, btw.
