Been jamming with a new group of guys and it's been going well. For the next practice we thought it would be fun to play more "funk-style" type songs. The trouble is, I don't know too many funk songs....Does "pick up the pieces" qualify? I def don't want disco. Any good song ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

| | | Personally, I would stay away from the Funk tune cliches-
"Brick House"
"Cissy Strut"
"Chameleon"
"Low Rider"
"Play That Funky Music"...if that even qualifies.
...each of the above bands above have other tunes, in the same vibe, that haven't been done to death.

also I agree with:
Brick House and Play that Funky Music
also: She's a Bad Mama Jama
I'm You Boogie Man
Superstition
You Dropped the Bomb on Me
Ladie's Night
Superfreak
Let's Groove Tonight
those are pretty popular ones I have heard at the clubs. I can play Brick House, She's a Bad Mama Jama and Let's Groove Tonight.
If you can slap, that would make it even funkier. I wish I could slap. I will hopefully one day!

Additionally, if you are in a mere trio, you will have to rip the solo (probably clean, not effected) during the descending chormatic chord break, then let your guitarrist rip it over the regular lick. My trio takes it even further; I rap the complete Yertle the Turtle over the main lick before we take a final chorus and finish. Crowds DIG it, and who dat sez that one can't be creative in a cover band? (Sorry for the mild threadjack; back to regular programming).
