I need some inspiration...

Sign in to disble this ad
...and only you, the electronica freaks in this forum, can help me!
I've (finally!) started a two piece electronica band with a friend (MicroKorg+P bass/Alesis micron+some kind of drum machine) and I've made up a few songs. I really like them, but for some reason they sound too similar to something that The Prodigy or a raver high on ecstasy (is there really a difference?) might have written...not that I have a problem with that, it's just that I would like to write some songs with a Daft Punkish sound to have a varied setlist.
The thing is that I don't know where to get inspiration in order to come up with more..."funky?" basslines such as this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9MszVE7aR4...something which are simple but get people dancing.
Any songs/bands that I should listen to?
Thanks in advance.

Try the Australian band Cut Copy. They are quite good:

This is from their first album (which I prefer)

This is from their second album

That link didn't work...Anyway, check out the fine lady in my avatar, Imogen Heap. She's got 3 solo albums out, all very different but great, and one album in her duo called Frou Frou. Lots of variety in her work and electronic sounds are the base for nearly all of them. She's inspired me to get into electronic soudns and I'm currently looking into some midi stuff. Here's a favorite of mine, not so much electronic, but still sick

Here's another I really like, has a rock vibe to it as well-

She's also got some more "girly" songs, nothing to techno/rave but still some good music to listen too and be inspired by. She's got some skills with electronic sounds and making mixes, she just won a grammy for best engineered album actually.

Very nice songs so far! I really like the fuzzy sounds in Close Up.
