I Need YOUR Input

I just uploaded my takeon the Beastie Boys song She's On It. Eventually, I would like to have my own original old school hip hop music to put up there. What do I need to do to improve the vocals?

The drums are from a Yamaha RX11 (from 1984)
The bass is a Musicman Sterling>BBM>MB500
The vox are dry, straight from an SM58

All of this goes directly to my Tascam 4 track tape recorder. I don't mind the rx11 or the 4 track, but what is my recording missing to meet "palletable music?"

You can listen to my other stuff if you want, but I am not necessarily interested in producing any more music like that. But check out my reviews on my profile!

Thanks!

Not a pro and not even a singer, but I think the vocals just need more intensity. Beastie's are always shouting. It sounds sorta like you are maybe holding back a little. The drums and bass are pretty simple so that may be why it is a more basic sound. They used break beats a lot which have all sorts of cowbell and percussion going on. With this beat it may be hard to use some of that, but maybe some hats here and there? Again, i'm not a pro at all and you could completely disagree, but I'm just trying to address what I hear in my opinion. Also just trying to put in two cents since no one else really has.

More intensity is something I am working on and is harder than it sounds, believe it or not. Thanks, it gives me a start!
