With liner credits and everything!
A friend of mine built a home studio (closet)with some very professional gear and sound design. He's been taking clients on the cheap to get some engineering and production experience. An old friend of his hired him to create a CD. He wanted to record himself playing his families favorite folk and other tunes as a Christmas gift. The guy is an amazing guitar and banjo player, as well as a good vocalist. I have no idea why they hired me to lay down some bass on some of his stuff. Every song was a different style, and none of it was anything that I'm really into. I took my best shot at inventing bass lines from a rough track an a chord chart. They had started the process without any sort of tempo reference, so getting in sync with his timing was a challenge. Anyhow, they were happy with the results and I had my 1st paid studio session player gig. Simplistic as it may be. The results of the final mix kind of loose the bass tone from my J bass and Sting Ray. What can you do? The "producer" got the sound he wanted in the end.

Here's a sample of some of the tunes

At last !

Music where the singer can sing in pitch!

Nice stuff, very refreshing. I really liked it. Everything was just right to my ears.

Reminded me of Caravan.

I like it too. Really nice laid back groove. Great singer, really nice enunciation, something you cannot fix in the mix (pitch is good too, but that is actually fairly fixable these days).

As far as tone goes, its dead unobtrusive, maybe a P would have fitted what the producer really wanted better - but hey if he's happy you is indeed a studio cat now - congrats!

The guy is a great all around musician, a true one man show. He also plays banjo and cello on some this project. I think he would have preferred to have an upright bass sound and the final mix reflects that.
