Amazing music, but that bass tone at the very beginning... to be nice, not my cup of tea. Too much clank. The rest is fine though, I dig it.

i think because that part involved so many notes that you have to cut down the low end to keep the note clarity anyway the bowed parts also sounded insane!

Glad I am not the only one who noticed. I like that they call it some ridiculous name even gave the guy his own little spot. Call it what you will, thats a tambourine, but that guy has taken it to a whole new level. Usually that job is reserved for the singer's old lady, but when you bring in a pro, the difference is obvious.

Along with this one, this is one of the really few upright bass performances that really impressed me.
Excluding the walking bass master Paul Chambers!

It takes skill, I wish I could rock like that in something as simple as a tambourine!

when I was at berklee there was a show w/ Terry Bozio and this world percussionist Glen Velez. The audience was mostly rockers - Terry's kit took up most of the stage (and it is a BIG stage) so this Glen Velez walks out w/ a tambourine and I'm thinking this can't be a good idea . . . you couldn't hear a peep in the audience every jaw was wide open! I had the pleasure of doing a few sessions w/ Glen years ago - simply amazing!!

What a great vid - that intro is sick!!

+1
I used to dismiss tambourines as "that thing that Veronica played in The Archies", but about 30 years ago I was hanging out with drummer Paul Van Patten who was brandishing a tambourine as part of his Halloween costume (he went as Phil Collins), and he started doing stuff with that instrument that made my jaw drop.

Patitucci is an exception to music as a whole.

He is on an entirely different planet with those guys like brecker, and metheny.

oh yeah, Patitucci is an established monster, on double bass, six-string, and probably anything else he touches. Anyone wanting to go deeper with Patitucci might want to check out his work with the Wayne Shorter Quartet, the Chick Corea Akoustic Band, the Chick Corea Elektric Band, and any of Patitucci's solo albums.

Here's the Chick Corea Akoustic Band, with Patitucci and drummer Dave Weckl, (long ago) doing "Humpty Dumpty." Bass solo starts at 3:25 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZWrtZIGHd4
