I would like an opinion of my bands music and mixes

I posted a thread in the recording forum about my experience as a first time engineer. These are two of the songs we will be using as demos. I would really like your opinion on every part. The music, the mix... everything!!

Please be as brutally honest as possible. Any feedback is good feedback IMO

On the first track the vocals were pretty weak and the timing is off but the backing harmonies were good. I kept wishing for a more definable change in tempo or a bridge, chorus, verse - something else just to add interest to the song structure. I liked the overall mix though.

On the second track (backslid) I liked the general structure of the song but not the baritone harmonies - those should just go. The drums sounded like they were pushed just a little too far back in the mix - almost like a live sound vs a studio sound.

Overall I liked the second song much better. On both tracks the guitar and bass work seemed very good. With some tweaks I think you guys are good.

The fine folks over at www.supernovarecords.net are into your sound and might be able to help you guys work out some of the kinks. Check em out.

inevitable was alright, I didn't listen to the whole 9 minutes though (that's pushing it a little) but from what I heard it was a little repetitive.

Love backslid, great song. I would have the drummer play something more aggressive or just cut out for the intro. Only other problem was the back-up vocals, it sounds like (being brutally honest) the drunk guy in the back of the bar trying to sing the song without knowing the lyrics.

Thank you for being brutally honest!!! That's what I would like to hear!

I need more of that. If I know what rocks, it stays. If I know what sucks, it gets cut! These are just the myspace demos. These songs will be re-recorded for an EP that we will try to release this year. So yea... ANY input is helpful!

Musically I think you guys are pretty damn good. The vocals could be better, especially the howling backup vocal on the second track, and the "IIII Caaaannooottt Faaaathom" on Inevitable. I cannot give a in-depth commentary on the mix as I am far from a recording engineer, except to say that they sound fine to my ears. All in all, I can say that If you guys played my neck of the woods, I'd definitely put down a few bones to catch ya.

Thank you!! I did another mix of Backslid without the Screaming Vocals. And I reposted it. It seemed many people wern't feeling the screaming on Backslid and my bandmates waited until I said something before they did...

I am grateful for any and all feedback you guys have given, or any more someone else wants to give.

You guys rock!!!

Sounds really good for your first time at bat! The only thing I didn't like on the first track was the guitar tone, something about it just didn't jive with me. Other than that I think you guys did a good job on that one, yeah.

And the only thing I didn't like about the second track was the yelling, but of course I don't normally listen to music with that kind of stuff in it, so I can't really make any judgement calls on what works with that kind of stuff. And for some reason the guitar tone worked better for me on the second track, the whole thing. I think you guys have some interesting things going on with your music and it's cool, good job!
