If you could go back in time to to see one gig, what would it be?

Sign in to disble this ad
Say a good genie gave you a magic VIP ticket that would instantly transport you to any gig you wished, at any point in time. You would get the best place in the house, spend some time with the band before and after the show, the whole fanboy experience. What would it be? The Beattles playing at The Cavern Club? Jimi Hendrix at Wookstock? The Funk Brothers? Black Sabbath? Weather Report? Re-live your first gig experience?

I'd see Pink Floyd during the recording of Umma Gumma. That was the first rock record I ever heard and it warped me for life. I'd love to see that live performance.

One of the first gigs of the Pat Metheny trio in Boston, with a totally sober Jaco and Bob Moses on drums.

Miles Davis playing Pangaea. He only played it once as it was structured improvisation.

One of my favorite groups of musicians playing my favorite album.

Probably Who Live at Leeds, just because that album changed what I thought bass playing should be in rock.

second choice: I'd like to see some classical from when it was pop. Can't pick a gig for obvious reasons.

Rage Against the Machine and Tool back in 1993, at Lallapalooza.

Kyuss at the Bizarre Festival in 1994-1995 I believe.

Romantic Warrior at any show in the 70's.

I can't think of any more at the moment.

I saw this one, in the greatest place ever to see Rush.

Maple Leaf Gardens - Toronto "last show of the tour"

BEST ...EPISODE ...EVER!!!

Geddy sang:

"All the world to me's a stage and we are merely TURKEYS" in Fly By Night.

and

"One likes to believe in the spirit of BASEBALL" in Spirit Of Radio

He is so cool!

No need for a time machine there, but if I had one I would probably go see Genesis during their first tour ever, when they went into debt to bring their concept to the world....purest, rawest Genesis.

I've never seen ANY of them, so you are ahead of me. My wife got to see Page & Plant on the Unledded/No Quarter tour in '94 or '95, before we met. I have the concert video at least. BTW, the video is GREAT. Nearly perfect, except they didn't call JPJ out to play. I believe one of the reasons was that Plant wanted Charlie Jones, his son-in-law (I think that's his name), to play bass instead. He was really good on bass though. But they should have shown JPJ some respect and at least asked if he wanted to do the project. After all, nearly every song they did was a Zeppelin song, and probably JPJ-created bass lines.

You can see JPJ briefly in the 1984 Paul McCartney movie, "Give My Regards To Broadstreet". It's a zany movie, reminiscent of those early Beatles flicks (OK, not QUITE as zany as those, but still zany), and you get to see Paul, Linda, Ringo and others doing some good Wings music, maybe a couple of Beatles songs too (I'll have to watch it again, been a long time). JPJ plays bass on one song called "Ballroom Dancing".
