I like an emo band.

Now before I apply my eyeliner, squeeze into my girl pants and throw cups of pee off tall buildings (not sure what emo kids do for fun... but that sounds like fun... for emo kids), allow me to elaborate.

The Postal Service = Amazing songwriting. The best part A) The vocals are minimal whining (falcetto... no sir) B) The music is all cheesy casio keyboard toned.

Basically, the music is adorable. Like... their music is like a disney movie... except with a little bit more depth.

Story goes, it's these two cats send each other pieces of music via the Postal Service (hence the name).... why they didn't do it via internet is beyond me. A gimmick perhaps... regardless. I'd say this is beyond emo.

Now that my metal cred is shot to hell... they are the only band in this genre I've heard that I like.

Do any other bands work with these tonal qualities? That quirky/dorky keyboard sound? It seems gimmicky when other bands do it (Bloodhound Gang... even Monster Magnet did on "Take it" from God says No).... but these guys do it well. Does anybody else?

Thats too much dude.

Seriously though, I listened to the postal service a bit about a year ago while I was with this girl who introduced me to them. Problem is, she was really stupid, like really really really stupid, and wanted so hard to be scene that it was rediculous. If it werent for the fact that she hated Bush as much as I did and it was around election time I never would have spent more than 2 seconds with her.

Well long story short, everything associated with her is idiotic because she is an idiot, so The Postal Service is idiotic too. Or maybe I just got bored of them really really quickly.

Go listen to Electric Wizard.

Yessir

I could see them getting boring really quick. Like I said, they are Disney esque... pure fluff, I agree. I can't see myself rabidly waiting in line for a new album or even bothering to see them in concert if it costs more than 8 bucks and I have to drive more than 10 miles.

I'm too fat/hairy to be emo... and Electric Wizard is shiznite deluxe. "We Hate You" is one of my favorite Doom songs ever.

I did listen to that... it was pretty funny. Not bad for the genre. I love the typical harmonized guitars... when did emo become Iron Maiden esque?

Give Up was probably my favorite album from that year.

If you really like Postal Service, check out Death Cab for Cutie, which is not really emo, but features the singer from PS. Postal Service is just his side project, and Death Cab is his main vehicle. Pretty good stuff. Just kinda quirky rock with the same good songwriting.

Interesting side note, I heard that the real Postal Service (as in US) was going to make them change their name (kinda like how Chicago got its name chopped down from Chicago Transit Authority) until Postal Service agreed to play a benefit show for the USPS.

btw - "Nothing Better" has to be a top five song for me. Best musical breakup ever.

Actually "You don't understand my pain" is a Goth line. Emo is more "You could understand my pain if I wrote a song explaining it".

Yeah, I need to get a new picture... I'm getting too many requests from people/bands I want nothing to do with.
