I'm on the iTunes single of the week!

I've been meaning to make a post about the new Matt Nathanson record that I'm on but I didn't want to post all the songs online for free out of respect for Matt. So our new single Car Crash is the featured free download for this week. Check it out. I'm just playing a Precision into a Country man DI into a Neve board but there is also a RE20 mic on an Eden 410 with an Ashdown EVO 500 (cranked up) as a head.

I'm pretty happy with the sound but it kind of freaked me out at first that the bass is so loud in the mix.

Here is a link that should open the link to the song in iTunes if you have it.

I remember Matt from San Francisco--jeez, must be over 12-13 years ago or so now---nice to see his hard work paying off.

Nice playing. You're not kidding - the bass is really prominent in the mix.

Thanks for the nice comments! The bass is a '57 reissue precision (not sure of the age). It belongs to Matt's co-writer and co-producer. I had to fly basses out to L.A. to record and I didn't want to bring my 1964 precision unless I needed to use it. So that was the Precision for the session. I brought a jazz bass and a Lakland hollow body and also borrowed a Mustang bass.

Here is a pic of me with it '57 reissue.

Killer mix and killer bass tone!

That P bass dominates that mix, in a good way. I love your tone!

The bass is just right! I like to clearly hear the bass in a song. It fits in just perfect. Great playin'!
