I've been thinking....

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite metal albums ever.

Thoughts?

Really?? Wow...well, to each his own.

I'm starting to think it's close to perfect. It's got all the elements I like in modern extreme metal, and nothing is over-done like a lot of black metal. IMO, It's got a perfect balance of sick riffs, powerful bass playing, relentless drums, melody and brutality. Plus the production is awesome too.

Maaaan, I love this album. I like it because it's almost like too rock to be black metal. It's really weird. Bass tone on this album is crushing too. I'm going to have to rock this album today.

In my kingdom cold...
At the mountains of madness
Unending grimness
These mountains which I heart
In my kingdom cold...
At the mountains of madness
Unending grimness this kingdom it is mine...

I think that's why I get a rock vibe from this album, choruses! Most black metal doesn't have hooks, I think Immortal does a lot of the time.

Yea, it really does rock. It's not really black metal, I guess by default it is because of the band. The vocals definitely are, but the music is more death/thrash. Black metal snobs probably shun this album, but whatever. Glad to see some more fans of an amazing album.

Yeah I love Immortal and I think this album is great. I always thought that Damned in Black had better production out of all the Immortal albums, but I could be wrong. I remeber jacking up Sons in my friends car that has a killer sound system and the result left me speechless.

I can't wait to see them live this summer!

I'm not really into Immortal or Darkthrone, although I probably should be.

I'd rather listen to Taake, but they probably wouldn't exist with either of the above mentioned classic acts.

Sons is sick! I prefer the unrelenting intensity of say, Pure Holocaust or Battles in the North out of all the Immortal stuff.

Between Damned in Black and Sons (what I'd consider "late period" Immortal) I think Damned is the better record.

I've always liked Pure Holocaust the most but I never really did get into Immortal, they were a bit too over-the-top for me. I hope not to offend anyone here, but sometimes they come off as the Manowar of black metal. They did a tour together and Joey DeMaio said that they were "true metal" so I suppose they have that going for them.

Now Transylvanian Hunger by Darkthrone, that's my jam.
