Wanted to give a heads up on this- this album just came out today- haven't gotten it yet, but the soundclips sound really great (they're up on Amazon here). I'll give a review when it gets here.

Sounds like an amazing lineup, I will check it out when I can! Sipe is the man!

I got it.
It's alright.
I just can't warm to alex machacek's playing.
I'd love to hear this group with adam rogers in the place of A. Machacek, for example.

I dig it, it's what the title implies..improv. It's always cool to hear three guys of this caliber just get together and jam. Sipe has a few projects like this, he's a bad-man!

Sounds like a good one. I'll wait until my wife has this baby and then see what money I have left after that. I may not be able to afford it for another 18 years.

I was there the day they all met and then played together for the first time. It was an incredible experience. You can definitely tell this CD was improv but it's still quite musical and fun to listen too. They recorded in a very inadequate studio but made the best of it. Alex took the tracks back with him and literally created this CD. He did a great job. Souvik of Abstractlogix hopes to do this sort of recording more often and hopes to be able to set-up a little tour with this group.

I've had it for about 2 months. I'm friends with Souvik, the owner of abstractlogix and like I said, I was there when they recorded it

Sounds pretty cool. Abstract Logix' website is one I do NOT like to visit- they have so much good fusion-ish stuff that no one else seems to have, and I never have enough money when I go there

Here's a pic from their first meeting and show. They played a very small club in Raleigh, NC. I had dinner with Sipe right after he set-up his drums, then we went back to the club to wait for Matt and Alex, which was when they met. Matt and Alex set up their gear and pretty much played a show with just a little bit of discussion on what they were going to play.

Where in Raleigh was it? I've spent a good amount of time there- love School Kids Records, hate all three of the Indian restaurants I've tried there

Oh, it's tough. I never go to his house because I can't afford it. My drummer goes there all the time and still has things he bought months ago that he has yet to open. Souvik and my drummer were responsible for bringing John McLaughlin to the Raleigh area. Souvik is friends with a lot of fusion guys and I hope he is able to do much more of this kind of thing.

Souvik's Indian so I've eaten what he feels is good Indian food. We had dinner at some place with the McLaughlin guys last week but I can't remember the name. It was pretty good though I had no clue what I was eating and that's probably for the best. I can't remember the name of the club but it's very small and may have been owned by Sipe's brother-in-law. Not sure about that. They got together back in April and I'm not real familiar with Raleigh as I live in Greensboro.

Ah, okay. I don't remember the names of the places I've tried there either- I just remember one had an almost completely red interior including tinted lights, so you felt like you were sweating even before the food came

Either way, can't wait 'til the album arrives. Garrison sounds really up-front from the clips; it may sound weird, but on his solo recordings and Industrial Zen, his bass, while technically up-front, it never really sounded to me like his bass had in-your-face tone like it does from the live clips I've seen and the Hancock DVD.

It came out from Abstract Logix a few weeks back, but since it's on their own label, I guess they give themselves a head-start. I have Mclaughlin's official bootleg coming from them in the next few day. Dangerous place to visit with your credit card.

Is there a Schoolkids in Raleigh? The only one I've seen was in Chapel Hill (I think).

The place I ate in Raleigh was this huge burger joint...can't remember the name of it...kind of a Fuddruckers with alot of beer. Of course, the Pour House is good if you just wan't the beer.

The School Kids in Raleigh is in Hillsborough St., IIRC- the same street as the college.

I've ordered this - and I dug the sound clips on the AL site - I'm prepared for it not to be that amazing but I like to hear Matt playing 'live' and reacting and doing his cool harmonic thing in a small group. I got an email from him saying he'd been out gigging with John Mclaughlin, Vinnie Colaiuta and Gary Husband (I think it was Gary) - probably as a warm up for the current tour with Hadrien and Mark Mondesir - and Matt said that band was smoking... if any one out there has a bootleg of that - please let me know!

I ordered the 'official' Mclaughlin bootleg too and it's on it's way - so it's going to be fusion city round my way soon! (Er, it is most days anyway )

Night y'all

Hey, Mike. I have the board recording of the gig Matt did with those guys. It's from Eric Clapton's Cross Road concert. It's about 30 minutes long and they play 3 songs. It's pretty cool. Yeah, I don't think this recording is as much amazing as it is fun. It's nice to hear Matt in these situations. I may be a little biased due to the fact I was there when they recorded and got to see what went into it. But if anyone is a Garrison fan this is a must have.

Wow--trip down memory lane!--one poster was unaware of the Schoolkids Records in Raleigh; another responds that it's on Hillsborough Street, across from the college...that would be my alma mater, NCSU.

In my college days there--72-75--that store was new--I think it was the original of the chain. I bought a fair amount of vinyl there, and I used to have some good conversations with the proprietor, Mike. I distinctly remember he used to file the Eagles' albums under 'Beagles'. He got no argument from me. <LOL>

Late in the next decade, I played some Atlanta-area gigs with Sipe. It was fun, and clearly he was on his way. Glad to know he's still on the scene, because he's a great player.

And above all: tempus fugit.
