Infringing on whats been done

I am constantly trying to write music in many forms but i always get hung up on the thought of "am i stealing whats already been taken or can i just use this?".

For instance....this is a really cool bass line... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MlwEEaUZGU

I jam it out and then i want to use it...in recordings that i am working on. Is this a lawsuit waiting to happen if my music ever does get discovered?

How do most be go about not wanting to use what your learning? Its tricky... alot of gray area i guess.

Fear not. I just stole it and paved the way for you to steal it again. You're welcome.

Why be afraid,dolph lundgren?
After all you are a big blond mofo with a rurssian accent, right? Who would want to mess with you?

Kidding aside
You can use it at the risk of been called a rip off.
Basically, there is not much new things in western music (unless you lend your ears to those present innovators, but none are in the vein of what we heard on that video),so there is a constant recycling of things.
Music recycling is the old adage : "if the thing work,no reason to change it or repair it".
That's what is being sold to the people, you can always expect to hear a twist of what we've already heard.
