I love funk, and all the above bands....
If you want the newer funk stuff try out:

Jamiroquai
Brand New Heavies
Us3
Red Hot Chili Peppers (the bass is the only really funky part)

Also check out:
Herbie Hancock
D'angelo
Average White Band
Greyboy Allstar Band

And if you are lookin for bootsy and haven't heard of them already:

Parliament

Some easy but groovin songs are:

Earth Wind Fire - Let's Groove
Herbie Hancock - Chameleon (the timing is a little difficult)
Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
A Taste of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie (more like disco, but hey, thats funk)
Chic - Good Times
Average White Band - Pick Up The Peices
Parliament - Flashlight
Greyboy Allstar Band - Soul Dream
Tower of Power - Once You Get A Taste (look out for needing a low D)

Yeah those are some greats that got me started... Hell I am still starting!!!!

Oh well the world needs more funk. If you notice all the new commercials have funk backgrounds now... You can tell that it is going to make a comeback in the near future, even if it is just a little bit.

Good Luck
