Interpretations

Sign in to disble this ad
Have any of you picked up the CD, Interpretations? It is a collection of Earth, Wind, & Fire songs performed by other artists and produced by Maurice White. Many are new r&b artists like Dwele, late generation funk bands like Mint Condition, and old stalwarts like Chaka Khan. Meshell N'Degeocello is on too. Basswise, it seems tight, Pino Pallidino and Melvin Davis are on it, and some guys I don't too. Meshell only sang and did not play.

I have it. It's pretty tight but I think I would have dug it more if it was more raw & grass rootsy. It's a good record though. Nothing to write home about, IMO!

I see your point, but I feel that Ron Long was great in his redo of Verdine on "Shining Star." The bass is mixed the way I would have loved to have heard it on the original. I also think that Pino PAllidino killed on "Can't Hide Love." I don't think it is possible for him to play a wrong note!

I hear ya. On second listen, it actually is grass rootsy! And some excellent bass playing to be had. The Soul & Funk players need to listen to this one to cop some licks. Pino's playing is really soulful! Excellent but laid back playing! I'd post some but this stuff is new and the RIAA will be knocking on my door!
