Does anybody know of any good irish rock bands, preferably from around the 80's onward in the punk and altenative music genres?

Johnny Rotten and Morrissey were both Irish-English...but that's not the same thing. They've both pretty much rejected Ireland.
Though Scottish, Oi Polloi is a band that's started writing their songs in Gaelic, might be worth checking out.

Flogging Molly for sure.
I'm a huge Dropkick Murphys fan as well, but I dunno if you should count them. They are from Massachusetts, after all

I love both of those bands.
I think he's looking for Irish Punk from the 80's. I'm thinking from Ireland as well. I can only think of The Pogues. I don't think they really qualify as true punk though.
You would think that there would have been a lot of punk bands out of Northern Ireland, especially during that time. Those people had some something to be angry about. I'm not making a statement regarding agreement or dissagreement with the people of Norther Ireland. I'm just saying that they probably had more to say than the kids in Orange County, California.

My bad, I had no idea. When I saw them live he was the only one who spoke, so I just assumed they all were.

The point I was trying to make was if you're into music with Celtic roots with a more modern, harder, sound, I would reccommend them. As far as I know, Ireland is the only country in the isles that still uses Gaelic somewhat actively.
