Does anybody know of any good irish rock bands, preferably from around the 80's onward in the punk and altenative music genres?

Stiff Little Fingers, the Undertones, the Cranberries and The Pogues are the only ones I can think of at the moment. Johnny Rotten and Morrissey were both Irish-English...but that's not the same thing. They've both pretty much rejected Ireland.

Though Scottish, Oi Polloi is a band that's started writing their songs in Gaelic, might be worth checking out.

Flogging Molly for sure.

I'm a huge Dropkick Murphys fan as well, but I dunno if you should count them. They are from Massachusetts, after all

Flogging Molly are from LA, the only Irish-Irish guy in them is Dave King.

The Men They Couldn't Hang. The Pogues' less successful contemporaries.

Huge Drop Kick Murphy's (Boston) and Flogging Molly (Los Angeles) are not from Ireland. Although Dave King is an Irishman the rest are from the U.S.

I love both of those bands.

I think he's looking for Irish Punk from the 80's. I'm thinking from Ireland as well. I can only think of The Pogues. I don't think they really qualify as true punk though.

You would think that there would have been a lot of punk bands out of Northern Ireland, especially during that time. Those people had some something to be angry about. I'm not making a statement regarding agreement or dissagreement with the people of Norther Ireland. I'm just saying that they probably had more to say than the kids in Orange County, California.

My bad, I had no idea. When I saw them live he was the only one who spoke, so I just assumed they all were.

They're also Scottish, so it's a moot point. The point I was trying to make was if you're into music with Celtic roots with a more modern, harder, sound, I would reccommend them. As far as I know, Ireland is the only country in the isles that still uses Gaelic somewhat actively.
