How's it compare to past albums? Where is it at $9.99 - Best Buy?

best buy 9.99

The overall tone to the album seems a bit more warm that the past offerings. Hard to explain. I hear a lot of classic maiden signatures riffs, but the main body and feal of the songs are more like the past three albums. Then again, I have never been disapointed by a maiden album for what its worth!

I am not a big Maiden fan, but I am listening to the tunes on youtube and it's pretty strong, really. I would think if you like Maiden, you'll dig this. It's much better than I thought it'd be, hahahaha.

I'll post my review from the Facebook group...

1. Satellite 15... The Final Frontier - Atmosphere. Nothing but pure build-up and I love it. Sets the scene perfectly, as do the lyrics of frustration, loneliness and helplessness. Then when the riff kicks in... the chorus, the solos and the great all around sound and vibe make it a brilliant opener.
2. El Dorado - An old favourite... Energetic, catchy and with a hell of a solo section. Me gusta mucho.
3. Mother of Mercy - Beautiful lyrics about the pains of war, a great riff and the chrous paints a brilliant picture of the pain and torture.
4. Coming Home - A space age Out of the Shadows. Truly brilliant, and amazing chorus, fantastic vocal work and will surely be nothing short of spectacular live.
5. The Alchemist - A nice fun one before the serious bits start. A great melody, and will be another great live song.
6. Isle of Avalon - Wow. Just wow. I can see why Dave said it needed to be recorded in sections. The technicality is outstanding, and the mid-end section is mind blowing.
7. Starblind - Dear God of all that is holy and pure! This is, quite simply, a masterpiece. The melody, the chorus, all of it is near perfect. However, the next three songs...
8. The Talisman - Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeestwaaa aaaaards weeeeeeeeeeeeee saaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiill. The lyrics are so descriptive, yet so poetic, the melody so hopeful, yet sad and above all, Bruce! He hasn't forgotten how to sing at all...
9. The Man Who Would Be King - The first few lines alone are enough for this to be amazing, but no! They carry the form on for 8 and a half minutes. Simply, the second best song on the album. Which brings us to...
10. When The Wild Wind Blows - The best on the album, and up there with Hallowed, Rime and Alexander. As someone who grew up reading When the Wind Blows, this song captures perfectly the sentiment, the message, the mood and the characters. Add one of the most beautiful melodies 'Arry has ever turned out, add triple guitar solos on a par with Greater Good and Paschendale, then stretch it out for 11 minutes, letting it breathe, grow and become a living thing and you have what is quite simply the best song released this decade. Mr. Harris, have my babies!

Overall - This album is better than Seventh Son. It's almost as good as Powerslave and as good as Somewhere in Time. The sound is like Brave New World, coupled with Seventh Son and played on Mars. Truly a career highpoint for the six of them. Now, announce a Hallenstadion date!!!

I Love Iron Maiden, seen them 4 times in concert. But I don't like anything they put out after Fear of the Dark. I think there last great album was Sevent son of a Seventh Son. Which was also their last Platinum album or disc if you will. Bruce has lost most of his powerful voice now, Live at Donington Castle IMO was there last great Live release. I just don't care for the weak lunged ballad type of music . So in otherwords I love Classic Iron Maiden, but not post 92 or 93 or whatever

Listen to The Talisman, Bruce sounds as powerful as ever. He sounds great on the whole album. This is my favorite Maiden release since Somewhere In Time

Keep in mind I am HUGE Maiden fan, and Steve Harris is the main reason I play bass...but

I just bought it a few hours ago and my first impression isn't great. Sorry, but it's too much of a concept album, and IMO there are already too many bad ones in existence. The songs themselves are decent, but no song on the CD really grabbed me, like some of their older classics.

And another thing is this album is WORDY! Bruce needs to put the mic down once in a while and let the boys jam, like in Phantom of the Opera, for example. The lyrics go on and on and on, as if it's an audio book with too many stories to tell.

But that's just my first impression, and 8 times out of 10 I usually end up liking an album after not being it wow'ed at first. I felt the same way after I listened to 'Seventh Son' and 'Brave New World', too, and have since grown to love those two. But on the other hand, 'A Matter of Life and Death' pulled me in right away the first time through. I expected that to happen here, too.

Just listen to it a few times. There's too much there for just a couple of listens. I didn't even notice the solo in "The Man Who Would Be King" until the 4th or 5th listen...

Thats one of the things I really like about this new album...
More Bruce and less guitar wankery....I am a huge fan of cutting guitar solos down...call me crazy....Ill agree with that..
