isolating the bass line

Sign in to disble this ad
when I listen to songs while trying to learn them, i know the fingerings but i cant get them to fit with the music. Presently, my plan is to crank my brother's stereo as loud as it can go, turn on EVERY bass enhancer the thing has and go upstairs with my bass to hear the line. Tragiclly, this pisses the hell out of my mother. Any tips on finding that bass line???

Listen a couple times through, then simply play along at a similar volume...you may not hear the original too well but I bet you hear when you're off...works for me at least.

+1 to whats already been said.

Other than that you could try to use a program like guitarpro or powertab to turn the volume down on the other instruments. Plus then you can slow down the song for difficult passages an isolate that basspart.

Also try messing with the balance settings, some songs have the guitar and bass divided between sides or the bass or guitar is more prevalent on one side over the other, a good example of this is fire by jimi hendrix. I did this several times when I first started and it helped a lot, plus it also helps down the line because you can turn their bass recording off and sustitute your own(my favorite).

yes changing the eq and panning the track to different sides has always helped me... the bass or the intrument blocking the bass frequencies is usually on one side or another
