Isolating Bass in recordings (without buying anything)

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone know of any downloadable software that can isolate the bass from mp3's????

I'm trying to learn some stuff by ear and I cant hear the bass well enough to decipher exactly what he's playing.

thanks

Before going that extra mile with the software route, have you tried EQ? I've had this problem recently with some material I've had to learn for a band. I found that simply loading the songs into iTunes, then using the EQ section really helps. Drastic boosts of certain mid frequencies, along with drastic cuts of certain others, can really help much of the time.

Just a thought.

There's a free open source audio editing app called Audacity which runs both on Mac and PC (and Linux I think?). You could use that to isolate or enhance bass freqeuncies to help aid you hear the bass better. It does all the normal editing stuff such as time stretching and pitch correction, which may also help?
