I've Concluded My Band Sucks

I listen to music all day at work. I'm a huge music fan. I'll listen to every aspect of songs that I like and learn as much as I can about it- drumming, vocal arrangement, production, etc.

Every now and then, I'll listen to my own music.

There are two main things which stand out about it.

1) The lyrics. This guy has the most ridiculous lines that dont make sense in a normal way. It's gotten to the point that the guitarist and I can converse using his dumbest lines.

2) The drumming. I dont listen to what he does so much as what he doesnt do! He uses no snare or complex rhythms. Just a bunch of tom fills. His beloved ride has a horrible tone.

1) Not a problem. I can't make them out anyway.
2) The toms sound worse than the ride.

lol I'm here as well. I'm playing in a trio, and the drummer doesn't ever want to groove in the pocket whapping out quarter notes.

my singer lies and is extremely unreliable, but the music is great.

Whenever our drummer plays a filll he ratchets up the tempo a bit. It's like an out of control truck going downhill

BTW, Is Bert's TiKi Lounge really in Alberquerque, New Jersey?

Your band would be good, if you got a new drummer. You can probably get by with crappy lyrics.

Yeah, it wasn't sounding too good...sorry. There is nothing worse than a drummer who doesn't respect the song. Sure, I love a flashy drummer, but as long as they do what they're supposed to with flash, rather than just indulge in fill after fill...Neil Peart is a perfect example of a drummer who knows what he has to do.

'Arisen' sounds like it's skipping the whole intro...needs to not be the same the whole way through. What makes classical music great is that it has variation....and you can still tell it's the same song.

and I can't understand the vocals. on anything.

left brain is creativity/ art right? so there should be more creativity since it's called left brain.

and vocals should be mixed above the rest.

Start playing an unlined fretless bass and intentionally make sure your intonation is horrific. Try and get a rep as the worst band going!

Yeah, I was thinkin' "Arisen" sounds a lot like "Sweat" off of Opiate. But still awesome nontheless.
