There is all this raving about jaco and how good he is but I haven't seen anything that interesting by him could someone show some good jaco videos or recordings?

Easy to find on YouTube. Look for "Portrait of Tracy".

Jaco

Many of my students have asked the same question. I direct them to his recorded body of work. Unforunately, alot of the stuff on Youtube was filmed when Jaco was in the throws of his illness, so "judging" him by that footage is unfair. It's imoportant for the un-initiated to not only check out his music, but to learn about his true genius, and his later, tragic plight with mental illness. Watching some of the Youtube stuff, and then forming an opinion, would be like judging Muhammad Ali based on footage of him playfully throwing punches at the interviewer while overcome by Parkinsons, rather than seeing him in his prime. Jaco's prime has been documented on many a recording. Go check it out.

Weather Report's live album 8:30 demonstrates Jaco's fluid, nervous, and articulated best. He really shines on that record. Also the Birthday concert with his Word of Mouth band and any Joni Mitchell album he appeared on were stellar.

dont forget weather report's heavy weather. i'd start with that one and his self titled debut. bright size life is great too. listen to him early in his career if you're new to him.

...Except for the "Mingus" album. That's a bit of an acquired taste.

I think Weather Report's Heavy Weather and his self titled album are the best place to start.
