Weather Reports' "Heavy Weather" is an absolute must have. It shows a band in full stride at the height of their creativity. It shows Jacos' multi-faceted virtuosity from his groove(Palladium), melodicism(A Remark You Made), solo ability(Teen Town), and the way he can tastefully blend all three strengths(Havona). The latter I consider to be the standard by which we are all measured as bassists. It shows how much can be achieved and have far we have to go to achieve "bass nirvana".

WORD OF MOUTH!!!!!!

This and the solo self-titled are absolute groundbreaking genius, but I think Word of Mouth is incredibly under-rated. It's like the quintessential American symphony to me, there's such depth and elegance, but with that jazz/R&B/gospel/Caribbean hybridization that could only be American. "John and Mary," the last song, is my absolute favorite piece of music, ever, period!!!!

Make sure not to over look this album!
