During his tenure with Weather Report, Jaco was known to do bass versions of the Jimi hendrix tunes "Purple haze" and "Third Stone From The Sun". Do they appear on any "official" (i.e. non-bootleg) recording ? |

I noticed how tagged on the passage seemed - it is only a line or two. It would certainly make a nice story though! But according to Ingrid's Jaco Site, Jimi and Jaco never met.I mean, she ought to know... |

I really like that track. It is a Synclavier homage to Jimi and Jaco all at once.

Neil Weiss(?) sat in the club with a cassette recorder(IIRC) to record Jaco's gigs.
Dean Bennetti(sp) did the same with thing with Bird.

Wrong Robot did an awesome verison of Purple Haze using harmonics! He posted a video a while ago - don't know if it's still kicking around inthis forum tho... |

Afterward, he said, "I'm the only bass player who could've played with Hendrix." I'm sure he was referring to the "space" sounds he was getting with the delay. I didn't seize the opportunity to ask him whether he'd ever met Hendrix, but thinking about it now, the chronology doesn't quite seem to line up. I think he would've been too young.
There was a similar story about Hendrix jamming with Eric Dolphy, and in that case I think Hendrix would've been a bit too young.
Fun to imagine, though... |

Several Hendrix books I've read mention it. But its not in the Milkowski 'Jaco' book, so I dunno really. Probably didn't happen.
