My copy of Punk Jazz just now arrived...ordered it Sunday from www.cheap-cds.com
They're on the ball.

Right now, I'm checking out the new Headhunters' disc...the Punk Jazz set is a nice package; for the completist, this booklet/pics may be worth the $20.

...nevermind.
There's a glaring error on Pg. 2.
Pictured is Weather Report as Zawinul, Jaco, Acuna, Badrena, & Shorter.

The caption sez-
Zawinul, Jaco, AIRTO, ERSKINE, & Shorter.

Geez, good help is hard-to-find.

I wish Warner Bros would just release the Michel Colombier & Flora Purim albums they have in thier vaults! The other quibble I have.....is they mention in the liner notes how important 'Crisis" was to Jaco, but they leave it off anyway! I always thought that song maybe gave us a glimpse of what was going through Jaco's head.

I think the Portarit of Jaco thing sounded good in theory, but this is just a rip-off!

Afraid I have to agree with you there. I pretty much already have all the songs that are gonna be in the anthology except for the Chicken performed @16. It still sounds like a good buy, but i already have all the songs so no point in getting two of the same.

Jerry-
I picked up both from Audiophile Imports...I think the Colombier disc may actually now be available at domestic prices.
Flora Purim's Everyday, Every Night I just picked up within the past 3-4 weeks. Been wanting this for awhile...it's "OK", not essential, IMO.

Yes - the enthusiasm here, really baffles me?

So I have 2 or 3 great versions of the Chicken already, so the early one might be interesting for comparison, but I can't see myself listening to it much and it's hardly worth buying a double CD for !!

Headsup: some Jaco news...

http://www.jacopastorius.com/music/e...recordings.asp

Bobbing's 'Portrait of Jaco' available from www.cdbaby.com in June, as well as an intriguing album coming this summer called 'Word of Mouth Revisited'.

Dave-
Good news...I'm not holding my breath, though.

I will say this about "Amelia", the 2nd track on Punk Jazz-
Damn, the C.C. Riders kick some butt. I had just assumed they were some sorta R&B quasi-lounge act(albeit w/ killer musicians).
Jaco is percolating throughout;& how 'bout that nasty bari solo on "Amelia"...

what we need is a release of the Jaco/Jorma Kaukonen live shows from 1985!

Wow! I never heard about THOSE 2 getting together. How about that one mysterious night where Jaco invited an un-prepared and still-grieving Jimmy Page(over the death of Bonzo) up on stage to jam? Supposedly there exists a tape of that show in NY. Legend(like the Holy Grail) or fact, we may never know. I myself am trying to get a copy of Jaco with guitartist Bireli Lagrene, Live in Italy and Stuttgart. Anybody like the cuts on that one? I downloaded 2 songs off of Kazaa and was impressed.
