Question Jason Newsted Voivod Tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a huge Jason Newsted fan, and when I heard he joined a band that appreciated him, I went out and bought their entire discography. His tone on the last three Voivod albums kicks ass, yet I can't find an interview where he actually says what type of distortion pedal he's using. I'm assuming most of his tone on 2003's Voivod, is heavily due to his Sadowsky/Ampeg set up, yet I know at one point he used a Sansamp Bass Driver D.I...I'm going to buy an Ibanez SRX475 soon, and was looking at a Sansamp DI box, but the preamp in the 475 doesn't have mid controls, so I was looking at the Para Driver, since it has that mid knob. I've got an Ampeg BA115, and a Digitech BP200, and can't get that tone out of that, so I was curious as to whether or not the Para Driver and the 475 would help...Also, I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum section or not, so just inform me and I'll move it...Any comments regarding to the post info, and where this post needs to be would help a lot. Thanks TB!

I know for "Katorz" he used one of those mini-amps. I also just found this article (http://www.jasonizer.com/jason_newst..._magazine.html), which states:

"On Voivod’s self-titled 13th album, Newsted pays homage to the aesthetic of original bassist Jean-Yves Theriault by playing Sadowsky four- and 5- strings through ampef SVT bass 8x10 cabinets and a Mesa/Boogie powered Marshall 4x12, which provides high-end distortion."

I'm not sure about "Infini," but I love his tone.

Damn, you know what I've got that magazine at home, and I've read that before. Thanks for reminding me.
