Does anyone have a good enough ear that they might be able to help me out with what the basic motif is that Ron Carter is improvising over in the Wayne Shorter composition "Nefertiti" as performed by the 60s Miles Davis Quintet (THE best rhythm section EVER, I might add). I'd just expect those bass guitarists inspired by the profound ruminations of Carter and Mingus and Clarke and Chambers and Jaco to be a little more theoretically astute than some ham-fisted, three-chord tab-reading automaton. Know what I got as a response to this question in the instruction sub-forum? "***?" Exactly.

If you can't answer questions with civility, Ed, I'd rather you didn't post here at all.

User notes updated.

I'm not too familiar with the specific recording you're talking about. All I can really say is listen and transcribe.

As for tab-reading automatons, plenty of those are Jaco and Clarke-heads.

As you prefer, BLACKBIRD. I would draw your attention to my response to the original (of 4 threads on the same subject), instead of either clarifying the direction of that thread or asking me to clarify my position, the Hopeful Ingenue decided to come over here and characterize me as a "ham-fisted, three-chord tab-reading automaton". Which I object to.

And civilly reiterate my invitation to swap resumes...

+1. Almost didn't read the thread as I had to decide if I was a jazz head or not? I think not, but working on it.

And on that note, I don't know what Ed said but I always appreciate his input and experience on TB.

I know that there is a lead sheet for 'Nefertiti' in 'The New Real Book vol.1', published by Sher Music.

The below website has a number of jazz transcriptions, but they are currently unavailable due to the site exceeding its bandwidth limit.
