ok, so I was a little skeptical at first towards the new Marcus CD, but as I'm cooking some food for this afternoon's family get together I've got the tracks going and man.... "Jean Pierre" is one funky little ditty!!!!

Yay Marcus!!!

.... not to mention his take on What Is Hip?

Jean Pierre is a MIles Davis tune from the days when Marcus was playing with him.

Here's Marcus tearing it up at NAMM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90t0ThWP-pE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fexK...eature=related.

There's a bunch of youtubes of Miles playing it with various bands too.

I think I prefer the raw, live version of "Jean Pierre" from the Marcus/Miles era.

That's from the We Want Miles album, right? I used to love that record! Marcus & Al Foster are so tight yet loose...if that makes any sense.

Yep...2 versions on that album.
Just noticed Amazon has We Want Miles & Star People as IMPORTS...both reasonably priced at about $12 each.

I do to, but there are so many versions of Miles performing it on Youtube (as I mentioned and since the post was about Marcus' new album thought this was appropriate.

Marcus and Al are great together, although as far as electric Miles rhythm sections go Henderson/Foster are the s**t! Henderson's pocket is so deep and the way Foster skirts around it yet is always in sync amazes me.
