I wouldn't even touch a bass in front of Jeff.

And Jeff was great through it all.
I'm just glad it wasn't me. I would have folded. That guy held up well.

He's a killer teacher. I wanted to go to his school when I lived in Florida but never could, even though I lived literally 3 miles from it.
And after all the years of reading him in Bass Player magazine, I have yet to ever see him be wrong.
He's spot on. WTG, Jeff!
Perhaps they'll make it a series?

It's very easy to get into a "comfort zone" and not change & grow(God knows I'm guilty as hell!). Just goes to prove, we all need to know music & theory and how to apply it in everyday playing...... (excuse me, I have some major woodshedding to do!!!). |

Great vid. I was trying to imagine myself sitting there in front of Jeff Berlin while holding a bass, and all I could think of was FREEZE UP. Excellent lesson - I'm going to try to apply it immediately.
Jeff's approach reminds me of Zappa's approach to auditions (at least in the case of Steve Vai - if you haven't seen it, you should youtube it - it's hysterical.)
Oh wait - it's posted above - the clip has reminded someone else of the audition, too!
