Jimmy Herring - Lifeboat

Anybody listening to this album? It's Jimmy Herring's first solo album, he's THE guitarist in the jam band scene imo. He's playing with Oteil on bass, his brother Kofi on flute and keys, and Jeff Sipe on drums. There are few guests such as Derek Trucks and Greg Olsby.

It's a really amazing album, one of my favorite fusion release in a long time, and Herring and co. are all wonderful players. Anyway, I highly recommend it for people looking for great jazz/fusion music.

Bought it the day it was released...pretty much in the ARU vibe.
Great stuff!

I bought when it came out too, I'm a huge Herring fan, actually everybody on that album I'm a huge fan of. The album is almost a ARU reunion without Col Hampton. Great stuff! I'm hoping Widespread Panic give Jimmy some more room, he seemed hemmed in a bit on the last album.

...and Matt Mundy. His mandolin was a big part of their early sound.

Just got it myself. Nice record, I was always waiting for Herring to do something as a leader since I'm not really into ARU outside of the playing. Lifeboat's got a nice balance of shred and taste. Otiel on bass usually isn't a bad thing either
