I suppose it would depend on how densely populated Teen Town is, but I imagine Joe Frazier would beat the snot out of most of those kids.

Out of the two songs, I'd choose Teen Town. Not that Joe Frazier isn't a great tune, and Teen Town is one of my least favourite Weather Report tunes (at least from the Jaco era), but Teen Town has Joe Zawinul!

Joe Frazier was on the Simpsons (and was hilarious on the Simpsons), so he wins.

There is, IMO, a killer version on the Live And Unreleased album.

This is true, though I always find myself more of a fan of Joe. I loved Mr Gone, even with it's conspicuous lack of Shorter!

I think Joe should invite George Foreman over to cook burgers for all the kids in Teen Town on his no fat grills and they can all get along.

Back in the day, Downbeat gave Mr. Gone a ONE-Star review.
Weather Report (mainly Joe & Jaco) were livid...an issue or two later, Downbeat gave WR (Joe & Jaco) a cover + their rebuttal.
Pretty funny, IIRC.

I think both are pretty much even. I think Joe Frazier is a bit more directly evocative. I really can imagine a pummeling Joe Frazier when I hear that tune. Teen Town is more oblique, but I think that fits Jaco who was not as in your face as Jeff Berlin is.

Doesn't get much more in the face than that...IMO.

I recall reading about that in Bill Milkowski's book on Jaco. Wish I could have been there at the time to see it go down! FWIW, I think Jaco and Joe both give stunning performances on that record. The pursuit of the woman in the feathered hat might be one of WR's finest moments! Night Passage was a fantastic record too. As was Weather Report (1982). Man, Weather Report rocked.
