Despite being a huge Entwistle fan, I always find his solo albums a bit lacklustre.
I suggest getting the collection, 'So Who's The Bass Player?'.
It should give you a pretty good idea whether you like his stuff. Bear in mind, his best songs were recorded by the Who IMO.

not the best song smith unfortunately

I had "Too Later the Hero" on cassette that had a song or 2 but was mostly good for a laugh IMO.

I prefer "Mad Dog". It was the first Ox LP that I heard and owned. "Too Late the Hero" has it's moments and "WistleRhymes" is OK. "Smash Your Head Against the Wall" has an interesting version of "Heaven and Hell" that the Who kicked off their shows for years. Never heard "Rigor Mortis Sets In". Yeah, not the best songsmith, but delightfully twisted!

I've heard or owned all his solo albums on record. The first two "Whistle Rhymes" and "Smash Your Head Against The Wall" are listenable and actually fairly enjoyable (I have the original DECCA/Track LPs of these and see no need to ever purchase CDs). The others are pretty bad. "Too Late The Hero" is horrid.

i second "so who's the bass player." i picked it up a short time ago. great stuff on there. i had 'too late the hero' as well on cassette. i remember liking it a lot. but a compilation is probably the best way to go.

well I can only comment on the album "Too Late the Hero", and yes on the whole the album is pretty dire, but I still have a copy on vinyl purely for the solo on "Dancing Master"..the phrasing and tone is honestly to die for....

Yeah, "Dancing Master" is the best bass song on it!

I have TLTH on cassette ( 50p from charity shop - a gift from my guitarist )
In general, middle of the road to bland songs but INCREDIBLE bass tone, worth getting just for that IMHO.

"Best Alembic Ever"

i think the bass lick that opens "talk dirty" is absolutely terrifying....in a very very good way. and the tone is amazing.

"Big Black Cadillac" has some serious bass tone going. The lyrics are kind of stupid, but its a rocking song
