<RANT>I just finished watching the aforementioned DVD by John Mayer, and i can´t get out of my system the healthy dose of warm, fat, tubey, bottom end goodness that Pino and "Dela" gave away with their Fender + Ampeg setups. Don´t get me started about John´s playing and tone because this is a bass forum but i´ll just say that i would be extremely happy to be his sidemen. The thing starts with an acoustic set that i enjoyed very much, but i couldn´t wait until the full band or the trio began their set...enter John, Pino and Steve Jordan in suits 65´style, boy do these guys know how to play..."Good love is on the way " ,"Vultures" and an "Axis: Bold as love" cover are personal faves, loved the multi-angle version of "Who did you think i was" you can stay on Pino (playing his fingertips OFF on that P-Bass) or Steve all the way through the song (MAJOR BONUS). First time for me for such a treat on a DVD, so the trio performance ends with the camera following the three buddies backstage joking and talking like old friends (it sent shivers down my spine).
The full band performance is breathtaking, two guitarists, horns, keyboardist equipped with a hammond and all the bells and whistles, the rythm section just blew me away, Dela is one of my favourites, and i would sell my soul to have his feel and tone, (but those are all his, i guess i´ll have to find my own

) "Slow dancing" is an example of how a ballad should be played, "melodic and unobtrusive" as one TBér once said, definitely that guy makes that sunburst Jazz sing. Ok, so everything is going fine until at the begginning of "I don´t trust myself with loving you" i see Pino on stage too!!, that was too much, P and J working together in the hands of two amazing players, it is such a bass-treat...</RANT>
