While I love that she's back, I lament that she has to go through some sort of retailer/commercial coffee joint to get her songs across. Still, she's had such a crappy time getting any respect for her music over the last, say even 30 years, that I guess I understand her desire to be heard.

"Hejira," in addition to or even regardless of Jaco's contribution, has to be one of her greatest recordings; from the sound quality, to the searching, often icy songs, it's incredible. Of her later stuff, I liked the songs off of "Turbulent Indigo." I saw her performing on tv (PBS?) some time around there with a Parker fly guitar and her sound was so smooth; she's one of my favorite guitarists!

That is great she is such a Rennasance Woman gifted in so many ways. I especially love her Jazz influenced era. Plus one of the killer bass parts is Jaco doing Dry Cleaner from DesMoines.

Joni and Jaco

Be sure to also check out the CD because Joni stretches out even further on the record.

Why? I applaud the move. Her CD would be just another item collecting dust in the jazz section of Best Buy otherwise, if they even stocked it at all. People will buy something like this if it sits at the counter at Starbucks. As long as the music is good and a legitimate effort, I hope it has great success. Perhaps it will inspire them to go back and check out some of her other great pieces, and perhaps introduce people to the genre altogether. Huge +1 for Joni here!

SWEET! I love Joni's work! (with and without Jaco) I can't wait to hear it! Really doesn't bother me that Starbucks is selling her music. What could be more commercial than signing with a major record label and selling your music in a mall record store? Let's be real about it. If starbucks is paying enough attention to what she does and feels (as I do) that it's still marketable, than go for it! How many times has she been told in her career (by the labels that have signed her) that her music was no longer marketable??? I have NO problem with it. Just keep her writing and keep her music out there!

Joni is in the Monster Talent Club. Seeing her on the Tonight Show about ten years ago doing 'Sex Kills' just blew me away (especially with all the grinding no singing female fluff cakes out there at the time). She is an artist immersed in the real deal.

I don't know he had a few Fenders, but that is hard to tell from the fuzzy video.

Looks like an Ibanez Soungear. "Jaco" is kind-of blurry.
