Julie Slick: "Terroir"

In case you haven't noticed, Julie Slick released her 2nd solo album, Terroir, last week. I'll resist the temptation to post my own review for now, and instead just point you to what folks on other sites are saying about it:

http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/09...eases-terroir/

http://somethingelsereviews.com/2012...-terroir-2012/

http://www.musicstreetjournal.com/ar....cfm?id=103610

The album is currently available for download in a variety of formats (including lossless flac), and for pre-order of hard copies (and other stuff) here:

So how about some TBer reviews?

I've only heard one song, and boy was it vicious! I told Julie that if she keeps doing that, she's not going to have to do sideman gigs anymore

I think that is precisely Julie's plan -- i.e., to shift her focus from "side man" roles to her solo career. This isn't to say that she would necessarily turn down an offer to do another tour with Belew or Crimson ProjeKct should she get the call, but she's got several exciting projects in the works that (I hope) we'll be hearing about before long. (Go here, if you haven't already, for info about one of them: New Julie Slick project -- wow!)

Jimmy, I'm eager to hear what you think about the whole album when you've had a chance to check it out.

Nice,
Thanks for posting!
Reminds me quite a bit of some king crimson things I've heard.

Those semi improvised 'Projekcts specifically.

So where are all the other Julie Slick fans? I'm eager to hear what others think about the album.

I've been putting off writing my own review because I don't want to do so until I feel like I've fully digested the album. However, I've had it looping constantly in my car for the last week or so -- I'm now on my fourth or fifth pass through it -- and I'm still hearing it differently (and liking it even better) on each successive pass. So it looks like this might take awhile....

It appears from her Instagram posts that Julie is hard at work putting together the various goodies packages for Terroir Kickstarter donors. From her web page it appears you can still get in on some of this stuff (in addition to the CD, of course).

"signed, hand-drawn CD of my favorite solo and band songs I’ve ever recorded (including never-before-released rarities). Power Trio excluded":
http://instagram.com/p/Qfvxf5PcGD/

"a batch of 10 of my favorite home-made cookies!":
http://instagram.com/p/Qf1bm2vcLx/

"all of my previous albums (Adrian Belew Power Trio excluded), photos, and videos on a custom-painted flash drive. This includes exclusive live in the studio footage, my 1k session, tour photos, and more!":
http://instagram.com/p/QaTVHcvcAb/

And then, of course, there's the actual album....

"This curly girl is a true miracle!"

Here's a link to (what I think is) a great review of Terroir that a friend just pointed me to. The original page is in Italian, so I've provided the link to the Google translation. (You can view the original when you get there if you happen to read Italian.):

http://translate.google.com/translat...ngs-2012).html

Of course, the automated translation wreaks havoc in places, often in rather amusing ways, but the gist is pretty clear.

If any of our Italian-speaking friends would be willing to provide a better translation, that would be awesome!

Rut-roh

Tweet from Burning Shed a few days ago: "Just heard Julie Slick "Terroir" CD will be delayed by 2-3 weeks due to manufacturing issues. Sorry."

Bummer. What's up with that, Julie?

Hooray! I'm gonna need my copy soon, as I've about worn out the disc I burned from the download. Geez, if it were vinyl I'd be on my 3rd or 4th copy by now....

From this Instagram post of Julie's, it looks like shipping of Terroir and other kickstarter goodies will commence shortly:

Still don't have mine yet but what's a few more days at this point, eh?

And I still haven't played the MP3's I've had for months because I'm waiting for the physical CD. I must have drain bamage.

Julie should give us a name of someone to beat with a large object. Like a bridge.
