It's called 'Bona makes you Sweat'. Kind of a strange title, but it's SMOKING!
The disc contains live cuts of some of his solo material. It's cool to hear how these lushly orchestrated and produced studio tracks translate to a small group live.
Let me tell you, they translate very well. If you are a fan of Richards solo CD's, this is a must own IMO. |

I listened to some of the soundbytes. The mix sounds great for a live CD. I'll be picking this one up for sure.
His playing is great. His singing is great. And when he does both it's just awesome. |

I'm curious to hear if his playing on his own songs live is as restrained as it is on his albums. |

I am also curious as you are about his tunes live. |

The thing is, there's endless amounts of good music out there. Artists need something to set themselves apart. Despite being a phenomenal bassist, it's Bona's voice that gets more of my interest on his CDs. If you watch him with Stern or Metheny or almost anyone else, you see that he's capable of some extraordinary melodic and active playing- his CDs would hold more appeal to me if he included more of that. |

I think I'll definitely be picking this release up. |

| | | | I've had this recording for several months. I'm huge Bona fan but don't really care for this CD. I may have to get it back out and listen again. My first impression was that it might as well have been a studio album. It didn't seem live to me and Bona plays pretty safe all the way through. I'll have to go back and listen again, maybe my opinion will change. |

I think his favorite place nowadays is A38 (it's actually a boat on the river Danube) in Budapest, last year he visited us 3 times there! Also, Victor Wooten likes A38 very much, he was here this year already 2 times. It's incredible that we have such a place. It's like a small part of the NYC jazz scene here down in my city. I'm very proud of it! If you come to Hungary, definitely visit A38, it's a cult place! |

True. Last year during the Jazz Fest in Montreal I was riding up the elevator in my building with another tenant. (she is in her sixties) I had my double bass with me as I had just come from a gig. We began to talk about the festival and she mentioned she was going to see a show the next day. It was Richard Bona. When I told her he was one of my favorite bassists she responded "What do you mean? He is a vocalist!" It turns out she became a fan of his when he was with Harry Belafante. She didn't even know about his jazz/fusion career. Bona truley is one of those artists that appeals to a wide range of fans.

His bass is very well recorded. That title,"Bona Makes You Sweat," got me thinking. It's a good thing he goes by Richard, instead of Dick. That name would get him banned from radio!

Amazing. Wow, what a gifted player and vocalist the guy is and a great on stage personality. His live solo was not as technically "impressive" as Vics live shows, but as a musical experience it was absolutely first rate. I would highly recommend seeing him live if you can.
