Ok, so I've recently picked up the new Tal Wilkenfeld CD. I like it alot. So I picked up Heavy Weather at the CD Tradepost. I can't believe I've never listed to Jaco before.
You guys are expanding my horizons.
Anyway, given that I'm starting to get into this whole jazz/fusion thing, can anyone recommend other CDs/albumns I should check out?
This is purely for listening pleasure. (I'm not nearly good enough to play it yet.) |

Good luck...bug bit me a few years ago as well... Im a Jazz/Funk junkie now. |

Some recommendations:
Esbjorn Svensson Trio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VLuR7nly0I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N2d1...eature=related
-this ones a bit harder to get into because it very intricate stuff..
Esbjorn recently left this world...scuba diving accident =(. I had just discovered them too! Amazing musicians. I love all their stuff, what I linked is just a taste of their greatness.
youtube is down, will edit with more links later.

I'll definitely check out the radio thing.
I'll have to scrounge through TradePost for some of the names. I have a bunch of trade credit built up (mostly from 80s hair metal, lol). |

| | | | I'm taking bass lessons online at workshoplive.com. Some of their instructors over there are incredible players. Anyway, one of the jazz guitar teachers over there is Jody Fisher. He's also a recording artist. I downloaded his CD from iTunes and was really impressed. It's titled..'Old Song New Licks' You can hear the bass cutting thru on the tunes. Their all instrumentals.
One more to check out...
The New Mastersounds
I have their CD titled 'This is What We Do'. It's funky as hell. Kinda a fusion album...jazz, funk, soul. The bassist kicks butt. These are some incredible talented musicians.
As an aside...workshoplive.com has a jazz course for bass. I've been really impressed with this site, sponsored by National Guitar Workshop. I'm making good progress. I'm not using a private teacher at present.

That's just a few very accessible albums that are a good gateway to jazz. Once You get into stuff like these, then move on to more straight-ahead jazz. Classics like Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis and Giant Steps by John Coltrane are a good start. |
