Hi,

Anyone wana take a stab at how he gets this bass tone in this KILLER tune?

Sounds like a slow flange with distortion....

Thanks in advance,

John Wetton used a Fender Precision and Hiwatt amps at that time and sometimes a fuzz/wah pedal (for example on "Lark's Tongues In Aspic Part Two"). From the pictures I've seen from that era he had 2 or 3 Hiwatt 4x12" cabs and a Cervin-Vega bass bin plus 2 or 3 Hiwatt Custom 100 amps so maybe he ran two signals: one clean and one distorted. Anyway, his basic sound came from overdriven tube amps and a hard finger attack. He was infamous for breaking strings at that time.

"Asbury Park" is from the live album "USA".

The only thing I can add to that^ is that he used Rotosound strings.

Thanks for the replies.

Always liked King Crimson but only know 1/3rd(at best) of their stuff. If they tour thru my part of the world I am going to check it out.

DCat,
